parable 3
i think parable is very concerned with the ideas of groups-- and what they can do to us, and how we can band together. it talks about the idea of community a lot, and as i get older and older, that's something I myself ruminate on all the time. the community i find myself in and the communities that are yet to come. it's a very vulnerable thing, to add people to your community, because that implies just the smallest idea of leaning on them and seeing what they have to offer and maybe instilling it in yourself. i know this is neither here nor there with regards to parable, but its something that sent my mind on a tangent for sure. but also, seeing people band together in extraordinary circumstances is also something very special. even if the context is relentlessly dark.
People -- most living things, in fact -- are very resistant to letting people into their groups. It's a defense mechanism, in a way. If you blur "us" and "them" by allowing one of "them" in, where are you?
