parable 5
i didn't make a ton of progress on the book since my last post, to be completely honest and fair with you right now. but i did want to talk about one thing that has caught my eye as a concept from the start-- and that is pyro, fire, whatever you want to call it. i've always had a fascination with fire-- um, not in an arson way, i absolutely promise-- in that its all consuming. even if you survive it, it leaves a mark. literally-- once i held my hand over a flame as a kid, and it created a burn that i can still see nowadays (i was a stupid kid). and to see it as this all encompassing force can be really terrifying in parable, especially with the carnage it leaves. so no, not only have i been fascinated, it's scared me.
I like looking at fire. It's gorgeous. I hate being burned. I do a lot of cooking, and you'd think that would have toughened me up to burns because you can't cook and not cut yourself with knives or burn yourself on pans or a lot of other stuff (worth it -- I love food). But I still scream my head off when I get burned. I'm not sure what this adds up to, but whatever, I like these observations.
